Venus Period  - December 27, 2007- December 27, 2027
On December 27, 2007,  Pakistan entered the Venus Mahadasha.  Venus is afflicted in the fourth house in Ashlesha nakshatra.  Ashlesha is symbolized by intertwining serpants, suggesting further tensions, conflicts, and secretive activity.  This period was immediately marked by the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.  Events that take place at the beginning of a major planetary period usually symbolize the period as a whole.  In this case, the assassination of Bhutto suggests that the Venus period will be one of upheaval and change in the government.

Venus is involved in a condition called Graha Yuddha (planetary war) with Saturn in the Pakistani chart.  The effect of this combination is for Venus to dominate, struggle with,  and generally overshadow Saturn in the chart.  Since Saturn rules the government in this chart, this seems to indicate the overthrow of the existing government.  The Assassination of Bhutto may  simply act as a trigger to catalyze opposition forces to eventually get rid of the existing regime.

A point worth noting is that the chart of Pakistan is only different from the chart of India by one day.  At the time of independence, when India and Pakastan were being given their freedom from Britain, the Indian leaders consuleted astrologers. The astrologers advised them to ask the British to allow the Indian Independence to take place  one day later than that of Pakistan.  As a result, the Indian chart has a completely differnet Lagna, as well as a different sequence of planetary periods.  The result can be seen in the difference in the progress of these two countries.  While Pakistan's progress has been slow, and hampered by religious fundamentalism, India has progressed more quickly,  and is currently making its mark as one of the fastest growing economies in the world.    This is partially due to the fact that over the past seven years, India has been in a very positive Venus period, while Pakistan has been in a very malefic Ketu period.

Now that Pakistan has also entered a Venus period,  both Pakistan and India are now passing through the same dasha.  The difference, however, is that for India, the period is quite good. For pakistan, Venus is not only a maraka (death-inflicting) planet, but it is also involved in graha yuddha, mentioned above, signifying that the period will not be nearly as positive and may bring many  in fact. more conflicts and problems.
