Saturn Major Period: January 10, 1993 - January 10 2012

Japan entered Saturn Major period on January 10, 1993. Saturn is placed in the 10th house of the chart where it is involved in Papa Kartari Yoga. Based on this and other factors, in my annual lectures since 1987, I predicted that the Japanese would enter a recession starting in January, 1993. In fact, they declared formally that they were in a recession in late December of 1992, less than 3 weeks from the beginning of the Saturn period.

Looking at the preceding period of Jupiter, which began in 1977 and ended in 1993, it is easy to see why the Japanese became such a dominant economic force during that time. Jupiter, the natural significator of abundance is powerfully placed and in association with an exalted Sun.

Outlook for Japan:

As long as the Japanese remain in the Saturn period it is unlikely that their economy will recover fully. In fact, after Saturn, the Mercury period, although suggesting economic improvement, will not return the Japanese to the state of abundance experienced in the Jupiter period.
