Saturn/Mars Conjunction

On July 31st, Saturn and Mars will conjunct in the sign of Virgo. This conjunction is generally considered to produce challenges. Both Saturn and Mars are malefic (challenging) planets. When they get together it is like getting two juvenile delinquents together. They are bound to make a little mischief. Mars is the assertive, aggressive warrior planet. Mars gives us the drive and desire to go forward. Saturn is the planet of structure and form. It challenges us to take our time and go slowly. In some ways, these two planets are quite opposite by nature, and their conjunction can sometimes create a little frustration. It’s like trying to drive the car with the gas and the brakes on at the same time.

On a global level this conjunction suggests a sense of frustration for many people. It suggest that people around the world may be feeling like they are not getting what they desire. Frustration is the root of anger, so this period may also signify flare-ups of violence or military involvements in a stronger way in different places around the world. Even though the exact conjunction takes place on July 31, the two planets will be in the same sign from July 20th – September 5th. The effects of this conjunction will be felt throughout this period but will be more intense near the exact conjunction.

The conjunction of Saturn and Mars also takes place in the nakshatra of Uttara Phalguni. Uttara Phalguni’s shakti is the power of wealth through marriage. This can be taken to mean the literal “wealth through marriage”  (joint finances of married couples), or it can also be taken metaphorically to mean money that is related to contracts. As a result, this period may not be a good time to begin important financial undertakings in either of these categories.   It may also produce fluctuations in the stock market, but I do not think it will produce "the crash to end all crashes" as many people have been predicting.  The United States horsocope is in in a Jupiter sub period which will help maintain equilibrium, even if the market takes a dip.

On the other hand, the Saturn/Mars conjunction is very technical and mechanical. This is a good time to do any kind of mechanical or technical project. It is good for building, remodeling, doing hi-tech or low-tech.

It goes without saying that the exact effect of this conjunction on any individual will depend on where the conjunction falls in the person’s horoscope. People with Virgo ascendants, Moons or Suns may experience it more intensley than most people and should particularly pay attention to their health at this time. In any case, the key to this conjunction is patience. Treat it like rush hour traffic. Relax. Take your time. Take it easy. While it may be mandatory that a few delays, obstacles, or pressures may be experienced during this period. Suffering is optional!
